Horsehair Pottery Art Vase
This vase was made of raku clay and thrown on a potter’s wheel. A creamy porcelain mixture was applied to the surface of the pot. Then it was fired to about 1800 degrees F in an electric kiln. Next, it was heated to about 1600 degrees F in a propane gas top hat raku kiln and removed when red hot. When the surface temperature was appropriate, sugar was sprinkled on the pot to make small specks and then pieces of horse hair were draped on the pot to make an artistic design. This pot is 7 inches high and 6.25 inches at the widest point.
